Graduate of Keene State College’s film program, Chatel completed his BA in three years and started REC a few month after graduation.  During college, Ryan was a teaching assistant for film production and editing and during his summers interned for Protozoa Pictures and Look Effects in Brooklyn, NY.

During his first internship as an office intern, Chatel spent the last month sitting in with Darren Aronofsky at Sound One during post production on The Wrestler learning the sound design process.

The following year he dabled with visual effects as an intern for Look Effects, learning basic effects work such as roto and masking, helping on such films as Step Up 3D, When in Rome & Nickelodeon's The Fresh Beats Band.  Ryan was brought back to Look Effects the following summer as a rotoscope artist for Aronofsky’s Black Swan.

His first project under REC was for the national fraternity Tau Kappa Epsilon to create a PSA on bystandard behavior which he wrote, directed, filmed and edited.  The PSA was an official selection at the 2012 Long Island International Film Expo and was purchased by TKE the following year which they use in their risk management presentations today.
