SO, WHAT EXACTLY IS THIS?

 

 

The Filmmakers Summer Workshop consists of 18 courses where we go in depth on the filmmaking process.  We touch base on a brief history of film and how it has evolved since the beginning of the motion picture.  We believe that you can’t create something without understanding why you’re doing it.  Using this history for the first week, it will show artists how and why what we view today has such an impact on us.

 

We will be covering storytelling, producing, cinematography, directing, visual effects, editing, networking and promoting for each artists project they choose to create.  We’re not a cookie cutter program where everyone paints the same image and follows the instructor on where to make each brush stroke.  Every artist that signs up will have their own goals, visions and talents that they want to explore.  

This is where we come in.

 

Each section above will be demonstrated through hands on or visual workshops similar to a college class.  If you feel like taking notes, great! If not, then you’re probably more of a visual learner.  You will get as much out of our classes as you put into it.  As we mentioned before everyone has a different style.  This can be said about what software, camera or vision you have, but in the end we’re all telling a story and with this workshop you will tell yours.

 

Each artist will know where their interests lie and if they want to explore those or try something new.  We will ask each artist to pick a topic they’re interested in, exceeding no more then 15 minutes.  This can be but does not exclude; short films, music videos, commercials, web series, or a movie trailer.

 

Each artists is solely responsible for creating their own work, our workshops will be most utilized for this by having us go in depth with them in laying out their ideas, helping them produce, create shot lists to help tell their story visually, utilizing our equipment, understanding pacing when it comes to editing and more.  This can be done independently or with fellow students.  They each will be responsible for gathering their talent, locking locations by networking, using guerilla style tactics or paying for permits and  assembling their final video.  

 

This is not to be intimidating or feel as if you may not be at “this level” but one scenario in this business is you’ll be an independent filmmaker, which means you can and may be on your own if you truly want to create art.  The only way to succeed is to fail and learn from the mistakes.  And the best way to succeed is to utilize the tools and people around you to assure you that you can’t fail.  

 

We’re excited to see new filmmakers working with us and look forward to our 6 weeks together and seeing what you all are truly capable of achieving.  If this is your fist time making a film, I assure you it will  not be your last.

Q:  HOW MUCH IS THE 6 WEEK COURSE & CAN ANYONE SIGN UP?

A;  THE COURSE IS $1,998 WHICH IS $111 PER COURSE.  YOU MUST PAY THE TOTAL IN FULL BEFORE JUNE 8, 2015.  ANYONE OF ANY AGE CAN SIGN UP FOR THIS.  THIS WILL BE VERY BENEFICIAL TO HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS LOOKING TO BUILD THEIR PORTFOLIO FOR COLLEGE’S.

 

Q:  DO I HAVE TO DO THE FULL 18 COURSES TO BENEFIT THE WORKSHOP?

A;  SINCE THE WORKSHOP IS SET UP FOR YOU TO MAKE YOUR OWN FILM; YES.  IN THE 6 WEEKS WE WILL BE AIDING YOU AND DEMONSTRATING HOW TO ASSEMBLE YOUR VISION FROM IDEA TO SCREEN.  WITH THAT, EACH WEEK WILL BE TAILORED TO GUIDING YOU THROUGH THE PROCESS IN COMPLETING YOUR VIDEO.

 

Q:  I’M NOT LOOKING TO MAKE MY OWN FILM BUT I AM CURIOUS IN EDITING, CAN I SIT IN ON JUST THE EDITING COURSE?

Q:  DO I HAVE TO OWN OR BRING MY OWN EQUIPMENT TO UTILIZE THE WORKSHOP?

A:  IF YOU HAVE CAMERAS OR A LAPTOP WITH SOFTWARE YOU USE WE ENCOURAGE YOU TO BRING THEM.  IF YOU DON’T HAVE ANY EQUIPMENT WE CAN LET YOU USE OURS OR PAIR YOU WITH A FELLOW CLASSMATE.  IF THIS IS A CAREER YOU’RE SERIOUS ABOUT WE RECOMMEND YOU PURCHASING A CAMERA TO USE FOR THE COURSE AS WELL AS TO HAVE FOR YOUR FUTURE.  WE CAN HELP YOU PICK A CAMERA THAT FITS YOUR BUDGET IF YOU WANT TO GO DOWN THAT ROAD.

 

Q:  I’VE NEVER MADE A FILM BEFORE, WILL I BE LOST OR TOO BEHIND COMPARED TO MY FELLOW CLASSMATES?

A:  YES AND NO.  WE WILL BE GOING AT THE SAME SPEED FOR EVERYONE INVOLVED AND HAVE EVERYONE PARTICIPATE IN THE SAME WORKSHOPS AND FEEDBACK.  SOME PEOPLE MAY HAVE MORE KNOWLEDGE ON CERTAIN THINGS BUT IN THE END THIS WILL BENEFIT EVERYONE PARTICIPATING BY LEARNING FROM EACH OTHER AND UNDERSTANDING HOW CERTAIN TASKS ARE DONE.

 

Q:  IF I MISS A CLASS OR WEEK DUE TO WORK OR BEING ILL CAN I GET A REFUND OR MAKE UP WHAT I MISSED?

A:  UNFORTUNATELY WE CAN’T GIVE BACK REFUNDS BUT WE MAY BE ABLE TO WORK SOMETHING OUT WHEN IT COMES TO GIVNG YOU “CLASS NOTES”.

 

Q:  SO BY TAKING THIS COURSE IT’S GUARANTEED I WALK OUT WITH A MOVIE I MADE?

A:  NO, BY TAKING THIS COURSE IT IS UP TO YOU TO FOLLOW THROUGH ON COMPLETING YOUR FILM.  THINK OF THIS AS A COLLEGE CLASS, THE GOAL IS TO MAKE A MOVIE BY THE END OF THE SEMESTER.  THE DIFFERENCE IS WE’RE GIVING YOU THE CHEAT SHEET.

 

Q:  DO WE GET A BREAK IN THE 6 HOURS WE ARE AT THE COURSE?

A:  YES WE WILL HAVE A ONE HOUR WORKING LUNCH.  PLEASE LET US KNOW IF YOU HAVE ANY FOOD ALLERGIES OR          DIETARY CONSTRAINTS WE SHOULD BE MADE AWARE OF.

 

Q:   WHAT HAPPENS AT THE END OF THE COURSE?

A:  UPON COMPLETION OF THE COURSE EVERYONE SHOULD HAVE THEIR FINAL FILM THEY HAVE BEEN WORKING ON.  WE WILL BE PUTTING ON A MINI FILM FESTIVAL AT OUR STUDIO FOR FRIENDS AND FAMILY TO PREMIERE EACH ARTIST WORK.  FOOD AND DRINKS WILL BE PROVIDED.
